MNI (Unidentified Material)
MNI (Unidentified Material) is a project that precedes my Master's work, serving as a continuation of its core ideas. The overarching logic behind these projects is the exploration of the relationship between process and narrative through fiction.
My Master's project, Specimen 0, was a practical study that developed a story centered around a divine creator being and an investigator dedicated to studying this entity, the matter it introduces into a space, and how that matter evolves over time.
The practical phase of the project took place in June 2024 and was structured into seven phases. The first six documented the transformations of the pieces, while the final phase consisted of a video installation. Within the narrative, this installation represents the culmination of the investigator’s research.
The creation of 60 pieces unfolded over nine months, divided into eight modules, with an average of six pieces per module. The final presentation of the project included documentary notebooks and a four-screen video installation, each screen displaying different moments in the "evolution" of the pieces.
Current Development: MNI
As a continuation, I now view MNI as an investigation into archaeology, linguistics, physics, and biology within this fictional world I am creating. Since I am still refining and structuring this phase, all the pieces remain in progress—some are untitled, while others are still taking shape.
A piece is considered complete when I determine all the circumstances of its exhibition—how it interacts with the space and with the other pieces. Once this contextualization is defined, the piece is assigned a name following the format MNI (number) (place of finding), as if labeling an organic material within the fictional world. This process brings the fictional universe into dialogue with the real one, blurring the boundaries between both realms.
